Shape 01

Rectangle

Four right angles and two pairs of parallel sides. The most common shape - you enter the length A and the width B.

What it suits

A dining table and a work desk
A sideboard and a vanity table
A kitchen worktop
A shelf and a windowsill

How to measure it

Enter the overall length and width.

Measure the full length and the full width of the surface.
Check each measurement at both ends and in the middle.
If opposite sides differ, don't average the values - use the larger size, or contact us.

Shape 02

Square

A rectangle with sides of equal length. You enter a single size - the length of the side.

What it suits

A small dining table for two
A square coffee table
A bedside table and a stool
A square shelf

How to measure it

Enter the length of one side and measure the other one as a check.

Measure one finished side.
As a check, measure the other side as well.
If the sides differ even by a few millimetres, pick the rectangle and enter both values.

Shape 03

Circle

One size - the diameter through the centre. You don't enter the radius or the circumference.

What it suits

A round dining table
A café table and a coffee table
A lazy Susan in the middle of a table
A round side table

How to measure it

Enter the diameter measured through the centre.

Measure the diameter through the centre at the widest point.
Repeat the measurement in another direction.
Different results may mean the top is not a true circle.

Shape 04

Rounded rectangle

Straight sides and four corners with the same radius. Besides the length and width, you also enter the corner radius r.

What it suits

A modern dining table with rounded corners
A children's table - softer corners
An office and meeting table
A rounded sideboard or counter

How to measure it

Enter the overall length, the width and the corner radius.

Measure the full length and width to the furthest points.
Measure the corner radius with the printable 1 : 1 gauge - print it at 100 % and check the reference line with a ruler.
Don't guess the radius. If you are not sure, contact us.

All four corners must have the same radius. If they differ from one another, it is an atypical outline that cannot be ordered directly in Studio - contact us.

Shape 05

Capsule (stadium) shape

Two straight parallel sides and two semicircular ends. You enter the overall length and width - you don't enter the radius, it is derived.

What it suits

A long dining table with semicircular ends
A conference and meeting table
A narrow console for a hallway
A reception or bar counter

How to measure it

Enter the overall length and width. The radius of the ends is calculated automatically.

Measure the full length from end to end.
Measure the full width at the widest point.
If the outline is curved all the way round, it is not a capsule - a shape like that cannot be ordered directly in Studio; contact us.

The radius is derived: it equals exactly half the width. You don't enter it, and for this shape we cannot change it separately.

An important distinction

A capsule shape is not an ellipse.

Both shapes are called “oval” in everyday speech, but geometrically they are different. Mixing them up means an outline that will not fit your table. So we keep them apart and never hide them under one icon.

Two straight sides, two semicircular ends

The top and bottom sides are straight and parallel. The ends are exact semicircles. The radius of the end equals half the width, so you don't enter it - it follows from the sizes.

Ellipse - not offered

Curved all the way round

An ellipse has no straight side - the curve changes continuously from the middle to the ends. The ellipse is not offered in Studio. If your surface is like this, contact us for an individual enquiry.

A quick test: hold a ruler against the longer side. If a straight run lies flat against it, it is a capsule. If the edge falls away along the whole length, it is an ellipse.

I have an unusual shape

None of the five shapes fits? Don't guess.

A different or irregular shape cannot be ordered directly in Studio. Start with a written description of the shape and the overall sizes through the contact form - we will get back to you with the next step for your surface.

We confirm both the outline and the price before anything is made. If we were unsure about the shape, we would say so openly rather than make a piece that doesn't fit.

A surface whose opposite sides differ significantly

Common questions

Questions about shapes.

Is a capsule shape the same as an ellipse?

No. A capsule has two straight parallel sides and two semicircular ends; its radius equals half the width. An ellipse is curved all the way round and has no straight side. The ellipse is not offered in Studio - contact us for an individual enquiry.

Can I choose my own corner radius?

With a rounded rectangle you enter the radius and Studio checks it against the values permitted for your sizes. If the value you enter doesn't pass, Studio shows a clear error and asks you to correct it - we never quietly substitute our own estimate for a blank or an improbable radius. With a capsule shape the radius is not entered, because it is derived from the width.

Can every shape be ordered printed as well?

Yes. Both the clear and the printed finish are available for all five shapes. With a circle, a capsule shape and rounded corners, the motif is printed across the whole area and then cut to the outline - you check the resulting crop in the technical view in Studio.

What if my table is not exactly rectangular?

Measure both ends and the middle. If opposite sides differ, do not average the values - use the larger size, or send us a description and the measured values via the contact form.

Do I have to add a production allowance to the size?

No. You enter the finished size - exactly the size you want to receive. We work out the production compensation needed from the shape and sizes you confirm.

When will I see the price for my shape?

You will see an estimated product price in Studio before the cart - once the server has verified your configuration of shape and sizes. Shipping is calculated at checkout.
